CEREC® TECHNOLOGY
CEREC® is an acronym:
C stands for Chairside; the CEREC technology is in the doctor’s operatory and is used while you are in the chair. E stands for Economical; the procedure is economical for both YOU and the doctor. R is for Restorations; the procedure is used to restore your tooth to its natural beauty, function, and strength of original E (Esthetics). These restorations are metal-free and tooth-colored. The last C stands for Ceramic; meaning the material mainly used are high-strength ceramics that are close in composition to your natural tooth structure.
A CEREC machine is advanced dental technology that allows dentists to design, create, and place high-quality ceramic crowns in a single visit. Using 3D imaging and CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and manufacturing), the machine scans your tooth, designs a custom crown, and mills it right in the office. This means no temporary crowns, no second appointments, and a faster, more comfortable experience with long-lasting, natural-looking results.
For anterior (front) teeth, we will typically use the CEREC machine to fabricate a custom temporary crown, while the final is made by a local lab. In this case, there would be a secondary appointment to deliver the final crown. We like to use a lab for anterior crown work because we are able to shade match more efficiently, making your smile look as natural as possible
